Public Policy Day

On March 13, 2012 Catholics from around New York State head to Albany to talk with state legislators about the State's pressing issues.  Its a wonderful opportunity to join over 1000 other Catholics and the New York State Bishops as we express the voice of the Church's teachings.

This year the NYS board of bishops have identified the following issues that will be discussed:

(as approved by NYS Board of Bishops, November 2011)

1.  Oppose the “Reproductive Health Act” which expands abortion and support the Maternity & Early Childhood Foundation
2.  Preserve Catholic schools and provide equity for all school children
3.  Support emergency food programs, affordable housing and increased employment opportunities for low-income families and individuals
4.  Support programs that prepare and assist incarcerated individuals to successfully return to the community
5.  Support ‘English as a Second Language’ (ESL) instruction, direct legal services and assistance to recent immigrants on the path toward citizenship

The Diocese of Rochestor is also including a special focus on improving access by youth to mental health care.

The CCC will be taking a group of students to Albany, so if you're interested in attending or have any questions please e-mail Liz at eat59@cornell.edu.
